Apperance: The beer is black, possibly with a hint of brown, the head rather light, tan. Receding slowly and leaving lots of lacing. (4.5) Aroma: The smell is dark roasted bread, dried fruits, raisins and dates. (4) Taste: Not much sweetness in this, burnt caramel and bread crust, many bitter notes, roasted beans. (3.5) Palate: Rather high carbonation, a smooth body and a good dry finish. (4) Overall: A bit heavy on the bitter hops, could be balanced with some sweetness. Storing or an accompanying sweetness could and did improve this. (4)
